Chemistry we don't list
Our ratings come only from the six material manufacturers named above, so
a chemical they never tested shows NF. For anything not covered here,
two further resources are widely used in industry:
- Chemical Compatibility
Database — a free online lookup covering 600+ chemicals
against 40+ materials.
- Chemical Resistance Guide for Plastics and Chemical
Resistance Guide for Elastomers, Kenneth M. Pruett, Compass
Publications — published engineering references.
These are other organisations' resources, not ours. We link them
as a convenience only. Compac Engineering did not compile, verify or
contribute to them, has no control over their content, and makes no
representation as to their accuracy, currency or fitness for any purpose.
Any reliance on them is entirely at your own risk and is a matter between
you and their publishers.
About these ratings
These are general ratings compiled from the material manufacturers' own published chemical-resistance data, with each source and its revision date shown. They describe the MATERIAL, not your application. Concentration, temperature, aeration, mechanical stress, duration and trace contaminants all change the outcome, and a rating cannot account for them. Compac rates its assemblies to 90 °C, derating to zero; above that the qualification is the OEM engineer's. ⚠ Empirical testing under your own service conditions is the only way to be sure. Compac provides free engineering consultation — chemical compatibility review, circuit protection recommendations and sample qualification — and free evaluation samples for OEM qualification. Important — please read before relying
on this chart
This chart is general guidance for preliminary material screening. It
is not a warranty, a specification, or advice for your application.
Every rating is reproduced from the named manufacturer's published
literature and is their statement about their material, not
ours. Ratings are typically derived from immersion of unstressed specimens
in a single pure reagent under laboratory conditions. Your service is
unlikely to match those conditions.
Actual performance depends on factors this chart cannot capture,
including: concentration; temperature; pressure; mechanical and moulded-in
stress; duration and whether exposure is continuous or intermittent;
mixtures, impurities, trace chlorides and dissolved oxygen; aeration and
flow velocity; galvanic effects; surface finish; sterilisation or cleaning
cycles; and the combined behaviour of every wetted part in the assembly.
A mixture may attack a material that each of its components alone would
not.
NF means not found — no manufacturer published data for that
combination. It is not a pass, and it is not permission to proceed.
NR means not recommended. The absence of a rating must never be read as
suitability.
You are responsible for verifying suitability for your own
application, under your own conditions, before specifying or installing
any product — including by testing where the consequences of failure
warrant it. Where a chemical is hazardous, or failure could cause injury,
environmental release or property damage, qualify the material by test.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Compac Engineering accepts no
liability for any loss, damage or injury arising from use of, or reliance
on, this chart or any resource linked from it. Nothing here forms part of
any contract of sale, and no warranty of merchantability or fitness for a
particular purpose is given or implied.
If in doubt, contact us with your chemistry, concentration and
temperature and we will tell you what we can and cannot support.
